The First PSBB and Second PSBB: What are the Differences?

On 9 September, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan once again reinstated the Large-Scale Social Restrictions (PSBB), similar to the ones established in the months of April and May this year, after an interlude of the transition period from June to April. The Governor pointed to the rising number of active Covid-19 cases in Jakarta and isolation beds getting filled up as the main concerns that pushed this decision. By pulling this emergency brake, hopefully, the curve of active cases will flatten again and health facilities will have more time to provide more beds for the increasing number of patients. Even so, the rules of this new PSBB period won’t be exactly the same as the earlier one we experienced in the early months of the pandemic. So let’s go down the list of what differences should be expected, according to Governor Regulation No. 88 of 2020.

School and Education

PSBB I

Schools or educational institutions must ensure the continuity of the learning process, prevent the spread of Covid-19, and maintain security.

PSBB II

Schools or educational institutions have the same responsibility as they did in PSBB I. In addition, they are obligated to prohibit students from engaging in large group activities, as well as urge parents to participate in stipulating this prohibition.

Offices and Workspaces

PSBB I

Work activities in offices must be temporarily suspended. Employees are encouraged to work from home.

PSBB II

If working from home is not possible for all employees, work activities may continue with a 25% limit on the number of people in the office building at any given time.

Houses of Worship

PSBB I

Religious activities in places of worship must be temporarily suspended.

PSBB II

Religious activities in places of worship as long as the number of people stays below 50% capacity. Houses of worship located in red zones must be closed.

Public Places and Facilities

PSBB I

Citizens are prohibited from carrying out activities with a total of more than five people in public places or facilities. Except for activities that provide basic needs, which include food, energy, communication, finance, and logistics.

PSBB II

Citizens are prohibited from carrying out activities with a total of more than five people in public places or facilities. Except for activities that provide basic needs, which include food, energy, clothing, communication, finance, and logistics.

Transportation

PSBB I

Both public and personal motor vehicles are limited to a maximum number of passengers by 50%. Online motorcycle taxi services are only allowed to deliver packages.

PSBB II

Public transports are limited to a maximum number of passengers by 50%. The capacity of personal cars is limited to a maximum of 2 people per row of seats, except for passengers who live at the same address. Online motorcycle taxi services are allowed to carry passengers.

[Why Jakarta reimplement PSBB?]

Those are the differences between the first and second PSBB periods. Let us implement these new protocols safely and respectfully. Let’s also continue to remind each other to always obey these rules so that we can all stay healthy. If you see an action that violates one of the rules above, you can help by sending a report via the JakLapor feature on JAKI.
