COVID-19 Vaccination: A Step-by-Step Guide for Elderly

After a year of maintaining health by adhering to the strict health protocols, now further efforts to protect ourselves from Covid-19 are being made through vaccinations. Vaccination in Jakarta has been carried out since 15 January 2021. The purpose of vaccination is none other than to build immunity in the body so that it can recognize and fight incoming viruses. With efforts to vaccinate, it is expected that we can avoid the severe effects of Covid-19.

[Reasons Why You Should Take Covid-19 Vaccinations]

In Jakarta, vaccination phase 2 is already underway since February 2021. One of the recipient groups in this phase is elderly or residents 60 years or older. There is a re-registration flow for vaccination that you should know based on the Decree of the Director General of Disease Prevention and Control number HK. 02.02 / 4/1/2021 about Technical Guidelines for the Implementation of Vaccinations in the Context of the Covid-19 Pandemic. Let's see it in full.

Check the Vaccination Schedule through JAKI

Vaccination phase 2 for the elderly today can be checked through our favorite application, JAKI. You can help check if your grandmother or grandfather is registered or not as a recipient of the Covid-19 vaccine. This check can only be done for elderly recipients who are domiciled in the DKI Jakarta area.

[Covid-19 Vaccine Phases in Jakarta]

Here's how to check the vaccination schedule through JAKI:

  1. Open the JAKI application. You can install JAKI through the Google Play Store and App Store;

  2. Choose Covid-19 Vaccination in the Features of Jakarta's Covid-19 Response (Jakarta Tanggap Covid-19)

  3. Enter the Identification Number (NIK) of the vaccine recipient. Make sure the NIK you entered is correct and has been registered by Jakarta Population and Civil Registration Office (Disdukcapil).

After that, you can view the vaccination status or schedule with scenarios such as the following:

Not Scheduled Yet / Belum Terjadwal

There is a possibility you will receive this vaccination status. First, you are not a receiver of the Covid-19 vaccine or do not have a Jakarta ID card. Second, you are not scheduled to receive the Covid-19 vaccine, yet. But do not worry, you can fill in the digital vaccination registration form below the screen.

In Scheduling / Dalam Penjadwalan

If you got the In Schedule vaccination status, it means the ID you entered is registered in Disdukcapil but you are not scheduled yet to get the vaccination. It could be because you are not a priority like under 60 years of age. You can periodically check the schedule through the JAKI application.

Vaccination Ready / Siap Vaksinasi

You will receive this status if you have scheduled for this vaccination phase. You will receive the schedule and location of the vaccinations that are predetermined. If you receive this, immediately do pre-screening. Pre-screening is done to find out your health condition by answering the questions presented and come according to the predetermined schedule.

Rescheduled / Dijadwalkan Ulang

If you are unable to attend according to the schedule set, don't worry, you will get a replacement schedule that will be adjusted by the health facility, but unfortunately you can't choose a date, huh. The date will be adjusted by the system, and you can periodically check the follow-up vaccination schedule via the corona.jakarta.go.id website or the JAKI application.

Vaccinations Canceled / Vaksinasi Dibatalkan

Even though you already have a schedule to receive vaccinations, there is still the possibility that you will cancel it for one reason, namely health conditions. This is also the reason there are several criteria for not receiving vaccines. Later you will do an independent pre-screening and basic examination at Table 2 during the vaccination. If you are in an unhealthy condition you will not receive the vaccine, because you prioritize your health.

Pre-Screening Through JAKI

If you have received the vaccination schedule, you can fill in the pre-screening directly from JAKI. This pre-screening will help health workers later. You only need to answer and check the options regarding questions about your health condition such as a history of allergies, congenital diseases (comorbid) and additional questions for elderly vaccination recipients. This pre-screening can be shown to officers at the initial screening before vaccination.

Service Mechanisms at Vaccination Locations

After you check the vaccination schedule and do pre-screening through JAKI, it is hoped that you can vaccinate according to the predetermined schedule and location. However, you must pay attention to the following mechanisms when you are at the vaccination site.

There are 4 tables that you must approach the following step by step:

Table 1: Registration and Data Verification

When you go to the vaccination location, you will get a serial number according to arrival. After being called by the officer, you will come to Table 1. You will be asked for an electronic ticket number (e-ticket), and / or National Identity Card (KTP) which will be verified according to the predetermined date of the vaccination service. Furthermore, officers will verify vaccine recipient data through the application or manually.

Table 2: Screening / Health Condition Screening Process

After all your data is verified, you proceed to Table 2 to carry out the Screening process. At this stage, the health worker will carry out the first examination or anamnesa to see the health condition, identify the history of the recipient's disease (comorbid), and perform simple physical examinations such as blood pressure and body temperature. If you have previously done pre-screening through JAKI, you can provide your Pre-screening results in the form of a pdf file to the officer.

Table 3: Vaccinations

After completing the examination or screening, you continue to Table 3 for the vaccination carried out by the vaccinator. For multi dose vaccines, the officer must write the date and time the vaccine vial was opened using a pen / marker on the label on the vaccine vial.

Vaccination injection is carried out intramuscularly or through the left arm according to the principle of safe injection. After receiving the vaccine, the officer will write down the recipient's name, NIK, the name of the vaccine given, and the vaccine batch number on a memo. The memo will be given to the clerk at Table 4.

Table 4: Record-keeping and Observation

The final step, at table 4 you have to give a memo that has been given by the clerk at table 3. The clerk at table 4 will enter the vaccination results, namely the type of vaccine and the vaccine batch number. If it is not possible to input data directly into the application, the results of the service will be recorded in a manual recording format.

After it is finished, you will get a manual and / or electronic vaccination card, and a marker that you have received the covid-19 vaccine. The card has been signed and stamped.

Now, after going through the re-registration process for vaccination, you have been declared an official recipient of vaccination. The officer will ask you to wait for 30 minutes in the observation room and be given counseling about Covid-19 prevention through 3M and Vaccinations.

[Things to Do After Covid-19 Vaccination]

It is hoped that after you know the vaccination flow, it will make you calmer to do vaccination later. By participating in Covid-19 vaccination, you are helping to protect yourself and those around you from Covid-19. Don't forget to apply health protocols after receiving the vaccine to keep yourself from being exposed to the Covid-19 virus. You can get complete information about vaccinations and other information related to Covid-19 via corona.jakarta.go.id or through the JAKI application.
